S. Sturdivant Saturday Willis Mathew Sturdivant, age eighty-four died at his home in Century, Saturday afternoon. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Carrie Sturdivant, two sons, W. P. of Tacoma. Washington, and O. O. of San Antonio, Texas, three daughters, Mrs. Eugenia Remore, of New York City, Mrs. J. B. Goodwin, Ontario, Canada, and Mrs. B.A. Sullivan of Birmingham, Alabama, three sisters, Mrs. L. C. Parcia, Bluff Spring, Mrs. Annie Sweney, and Mrs. Albert Nelson of Bulf Point, Fla. and one brother, A. H. Sturdivant of Bluff Springs, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild, seven nephews and four nieces. He became a member of the Baptist Church as a very young man and was an active worker throughout his lifetime, except for the last few years when he became disable to attend. He was a deacon for over 50 years and always ready to help the sick and needy. Honorary pallbearers were: Aubrey Simmons, John Cain, Vivian Stanton, Edgar Archer, Howard McDavid, J.P. Harrison, Allen and John Barrett. Active pallbearers were Arthur Aubrey, G. M. Madrin. Curtis Sturdivant, Proctor Gunsey, and Lee Gunsey. The Rev. R.J. Kay officiated. The Flomaton Funeral Home was in charge. Additional Comments: The following article was given to me by Judy Jolly. Note: There are some spelling errors in this article, therefore I wonder if the reference to Bulf Point, Fla., might be in actuality Gull Point, Fla., as Both Albert Nelson and his wife Effie are buried in Gull Point Cemetery. Also, the Mrs. L. C. Parcia mentioned in the article is probably Julia Sturdivant who married Loring Garcia. This couple is buried in Crary cemetery where the above mentioned Willis Mathew Sturdivant is buried.
