County of Franklin, State of Florida, who being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain pension under the Provisions of Chapter 5885, State of Florida approved June 7, 1909. That she is the widow of Wiliam R. Blackwell who was enlisted under the name of William R. Blackwell on the ___ day of February, 1862, in Company D, 3rd Regiment of the State of Florida amd who was honorably discharged on the ___day of February, 1862 at (place unknown) on account of wounded in 1863, lost sight of right eye. That she was lawfully married to the said William R. Blackwell under the name (Hannah Amanda Smith) in the County of Wakulla in the State of Florida on the ___day of November, 1860 and that she was not divorced from him and the she has not remarried since his death, which occurred on the 26th day of September, 1886 in the County of Franklin, State of Florida. That she is resident of Franklin County, Florida and has continuously resided in the State of Florida since the ___day of January, 1855. That she does not own property, including real estate, personal property, mortgage or other collateral securities, stocks or bonds in this or any State to exceed the value of Five Thousand Dollars. That the following is a true and correct statement of all property owned by me in this or any other State. Blackwell who is an applicant for a pension under the Laws of Florida and that from our own personal knowledge and from the best information available, we believe that the applicant does not own property to exceed the value of the sum of Five Thousand Dollars. (signed) Clerk of Circuit Court REPORT OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS We, the undersigned, Commissioners in and for the County of Franklin, Florida, do hereby report that at a meeting of the County Commissioners held on this day, the foregoing application of Hannah Amanda Blackwell for a pension under the Laws of Florida was investigated by us; that we are satisfied that the applicant does not own property to exceed the value of $5,000 and that the representations made in the petitions and affadavits are true and that a pension should be granted to the applicant. Witness our hands the 10th day of July, A.D., 1909. (signed by 4 County Commissioners) WIDOW'S APPLICATION FOR PENSION STATE OF FLORIDA Franklin County On the 28th day of September, 1899, personally appeared before me __________________in and for the said County and State, Hannah A. Blackwell, age 60, who being duly sworn according to law makes the following declaration in order to obtain Pension provided by the Act of the Legislature, approved June 2, 1899 for indigent widows of Confederate soldiers and sailors. I am the lawful widow of W. R. Blackwell who enlisted February 9, 1862 in Captain Fryerson's D Company, 3rd Regiment of the State of Florida while in actual service and in the line of duty as such, Private, was on ___day of _________, 1863 in Tullahouia in the State of Tennessee. his Compamy was at work digging trenches and throwing up burst rocks for the artillery, with pick axes and a small piece of rock flew up and struck him in the right eye. He suffered with his eye from this wound for several years, finally loosing the sight altogether in that eye from this said cause and suffered more pain after the loss of sight in this eye for the remainder of his lifetime from the same wound. (Would respectfully refer to Pension No.662 on file). That I was legally married to said soldier on the second day of October, 1860, in Wakulla County, in the State of Florida, that I have been a bona fide resident of the State of Florida since the second of November, A.D., 1860, that I do not own property, real and personal, to the value of $600 in this or any other State and am not otherwise enabled or in a position to earn a livelihood, and have no income from any source sufficient for a livelihood, that I have no children or other relation able so to do and whose legal duty is to support me, and that I have not purposely disposed of my property for the purpose of availing myself of the provisions of this Act. Affiant further states that she does not know the address of the physician who treated him (part of this is not legible, says something to the effect he was treated in service and after he was discharged also. Clerk of Circuit Court Franklin County I do solemnly swear that I knew the said deceased William R. Blackwell, that I served with him in Company "D" of the 3rd Regiment of the State of Florida and know of my own knowledge that he received (contracted) at the time and place claimed the wound (or disease) which resulted in the loss of his right eye and that he never deserted the service of the State, or of the Confederate States (signed) F.M X (his mark) Vause P.O. Blackwell and that he was a Private in Company "D" of the Third Regiment of the State of Florida, and know of my own knowledge that he received, at the time and place claimed, the wound which resulted in the loss of his right eye, and that he never deserted the service of the State, or of the Confederate States.
