Edwards 229 Atlantic Circle 10182 Savannah, Georgia Re: Henry Robert Marlow, Robert Marlow, Richard M. Marlow, Jack L. Hawkins, Confederate Veterans Dear Mr. Edwards: This will acknowledge your letter of November 27, 1961, requesting Confederate Military Service Record or family information regarding the above subject captioned individuals presumed to be Confederate Veterans. Our available Confederate Records have been searched and I find the following: Henry R. Marlow applied for a pension under date of July 8, 1913, same was approved as of July 8, 1913, and photostatic copy of this Soldier’s Pension Claim which was issued under certificate #10182 is enclosed herewith and it was on the basis of this information that the claim was approved. The soldier involved in this application signed his name as Henry R. Marlow, and it is presumed that he is the veteran about whom you inquire. When the soldier died on the 18th day of February, 1931, his widow, Sallie S. Lovelady, applied for Widow’s Pension on March 3, 1931, which as approved March 18, 1931, with pay from February 19, 1931, at the rate of $480 per annum. Photostatic copy is enclosed. On micro-film copy #253, roll #300 which is a consolidated index of Confederate Veterans furnished by the National Archives, Washington, D. C., I find the following information: There are two Robert Marlows shown from Alabama, and one from Mississippi, and another from Virginia. There are seven others from other southern states that have a double given name with Robert as the first name, unless you have some information as to the company or regiment and from the State in which they served there is no way in which they can be identified. Page 016 Mr. Lawrence M. Edwards Savannah, Georgia December 5, 1961 Page –2- In regards to Richard M. Marlow on the same micro-film copy #253, roll #300 is shown a Richard A., a Richard B., and a Richard C., but I do not find a Richard M. Marlow. I find no record whatsoever of Jack L. Hawkins on the micro- film index or as a Confederate Pensioner. In our Confederate Files we do not have information relative to line of descent or other family history. Regarding the micro-film copies listed above if you have information as to regiment, company, or from what State in the C.S.A. these men served, it may be possible that there will be some background in their service jacket behind this micro-film and they may be able to furnish you information regarding the veterans that I would not have, if they are identifiable. This will certify that the photostatic copies enclosed and described above are true reproductions from official records on file in the State Pension Department, Office of the State Comptroller, Tallahassee, Florida. Very truly yours, W. C. Hoffman, Secretary State Board of Pensions WCH/vmc Encl. Page 017 Note: The following is a postcard postmarked Nov 29 1961 Savannah Ga. Dear Mr. Hoffman: In order to complete my Marlow family tree, I need information on the following who are buried near Greensboro, Gadsden County, Florida: Robert Marlow Henry Robert Marlow – try 10182 Richard M. Marlow Jack L. Hawkins As these men may have fought in the War Between The States, they may have applied for pensions, or their war record perhaps was recorded. I would greatly appreciate your checking your records and send me a copy of any records you might have on them including that of their widows. Information such as parents, births, deaths, marriages, and names of children as well as war records are the type of records I am searching for. Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
