One Thousand Nine Hundred and fifteen personally appeared before me, a Notary Public in and for the county and said State aforesaid, THOMAS HOWELL who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is 69 years of age, having been born on the 1 day of January 1846, the the County of Mitchell, in the State of Georgia That he is a bona fide citizen of the county of Gadsden, State of Florida continuosly since the - day of May, 1906. That he is the identical person who enlisted at Quincy, Florida, under the name of Thomas Howell, on the - day of March 1864, in the Company of J Porter Scott, Regiment Home Guards of the State of Florida in the service of the State of Florida and who was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at Quincy, in the State of Florida, on the - day of April, 1865 on account of the close of war. I went to meet four envasions as follows- 1st went as far as Madison to meet envasion of Suawanee River. 2nd Went in 12 miles of Mariana to meet envasion 3rd Went in 12 miles of Mariana to meet envasion false alarm 4th Went to Natural Bridge, engaged in battle. Did muster and provost duty in Quincy That I served faithfully until HONORABLY DISCHARGED FROM THE SERVICE OF THE STATE of FLORIDA in the year 1865, and did not desert the service of the State of Florida nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States until after the surrender of the Confederate Armies. That I was at home on leave of absence when the war closed. That I do not own property, including real estate, personal property, stocks, bonds, mortgages or other collateral securities of any kind in this State or any other State, nor does my wife own with me jointly or seperately, property to exceed in value the sum of five thousand dollars. That the following is a tru and correct statement of all the property owned by me or by my wife, jointly and seperately in this or any other State: Real estate, located at Havana, Florida $500.00 Apalachicola, Florida $100.00 Cattle, horses and other live stock $100.00 Personal Property $600.00 Stocks Bonds Mortgages, notes and other securities Total $1300.00 That my post office address is Havana, County of Gadsden, State of Florida Thomas Howell Attest:(1.) unreadable (2.) O.P Duggar Sworn and subscribed before me, this 24 day of June, A.D. 1915 and I hereby certify that the above declaration, ect., were fully made known and explained to the applicant before swearing, and I have no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this claim. Notary Public, State of Florida My Commission Expires Nov. 1st. 1915 REPORT OF THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS We, the undersigned, County Commissioners in and for the County of Gadsden Florida, do hereby report that at a meeting of the Board of Commissioners held this day, the forecoing application of THOMAS HOWELL for a pension under the Laws of Florida, was investigated by us; that we are satisfied that the applicant does not own property (including the property of his wife) to exceed the value of $5,000, and that the representations made in the petition and affidavits are true, and that a pension should be granted to the applicant. Brinson MD dated June 24th 1915 testifies claimant disabled due to age J.D. McDonald N.P. AFFIDAVITS OF COMRADES signed by : Edwin E. Willard and Samuel Howell, testified that they served with Thomas Howell on the aformentioned service. THOMAS HOWELL was approved a pension of $188.00 per annum on Oct. 11, 1915
