P. DUVAL, July 14, 1841 GIBSON, Dr. R. E., Associate Editor of United States Telegraph, Washington, D.C. HAMILTON, Reverend of the Methodist Episcopal Church HIXON, Mrs. Fleming, wife of Fleming HIXON KUPFER, Captain George L., of Boston - 1840 - According to old records, Captain George L. KUPFER was the first victim of the dreaded yellow fever which ravished the city of Old St. Joseph. He died aboard the ship which brought the plague into the port and was buried in teh St. Joseph Cemetery. A replica of the original marker was donated to the St. Joseph Historical Society and now stands in the Old Cemetery. The original marker is in the Constitution State Convention Museum in Port St. Joe. WARD, Leon Delegate to the St. Joseph Convention WEBB, Editor B. of the Floridan Journal - 1841 The above list was compiled in 1967 by Mrs. R. H. BRINSON and Mrs. Ned PORTER, deceased, for the historical marker now standing within the Cemetery grounds. To this list should be added the name of Ben STONE, Grandfather of Dr. Mode L. STONE of Tallahassee, and the names of seven children who died of yellow fever. Mrs. Ben STONE was the only survivor of a family of eight. As has been said, the citizens of St. Joseph were prominent people, and among those buried in the St. Joseph Cemetery were ministers, lawyers, doctors, teachers, delegates to the Convention, and the wife of Ex-governor, W.P. DUVAL.
