PROSPECT PRIMITIVE BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY (partial listing), Jasper, Hamilton County, Florida ************************************************ Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/fl/flfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Dayna Pollett, (d_pollett@hotmail.com). Surveyed: November, 1999 Directions: To find this site from White Springs, FL. Drive SE pass the library and Post Office onto County Road 135. Look for caution lights and a sign pointing to Woodpecker (town), where SE 54 Dr. meets perpendicular to Cty. Rd. 135 and turn onto this road. (On one corner is a mechanic's shop, Steve's Auto Care, and a fruit stand.) Continue for about 12 miles, passing several homes on the left, then turn right down a dirt road next to a field; the cemetery is not visible from the paved road. At the end of the dirt road sits a long, narrow white church, Prospect Primitive Baptist, on the right, with an old metal fence, separating it from the cemetery. Large oak trees shade the area. Notes: There are most likely a few more Cone gravesites which I did not find. The ones listed were located on the left side (if you are facing north) near an old tree stump, with the newer ones at the far left. Another Cone researcher, visiting at the same time, stated that a gravesite for a Mary Cone was closer to the center, but I was unable to find it. Some of the older grave markers were impossible to decipher. Families with other surnames take up about 75% of the cemetery. CONE, Ada, b. Oct 28 1845 d. May 24 1884, "Wife of J. B. Woodmen of the World derived from the Modern Woodmen of America, a fraternal group, founded in 1883. Fraternal scholar William Whalen describes it as an insurance society with some fraternal lodge features. Woodmen advertised themselves as an organization for the "Jew and Gentile, Catholic and Protestant, the agnostic and atheist." The Woodmen of the World emblem is a sawed-off tree stump, often with a mallet or beetle, an ax, and a wedge. Woodmen emblems are found throughout the U.S., most in the South and Midwest.
