There is a sign on a post with nothing visible on it. Bellflower Cemetery is located on 2 acres of private property situated within the Suwannee Ridge Wildlife and Environmental Area in Jasper, Florida. Hamilton County Property Appraiser simply lists Bellflower Cemetery Parcel 3052-000 Sect 29 Twp 1N Range 13E. This survey found five headstones, two graves marked with pieces of wooden boards stuck vertically into the ground, and six large rocks (not indigenous to the area) marking graves around an oak tree. The State of Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (Wildlife Dept.) manages access to Suwannee Ridge; there is a locked metal gate at the entrance to the property. My guide, Scott Johns (the Regional Wildlife Biologist) advised that no vehicles are allowed in Suwannee Ridge without a permit; however, individuals may hike into Suwannee Ridge to visit the cemetery. From the entrance gate to the roadway in front of the cemetery is 2.59 miles. If entering with a vehicle contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in Lake City (386-758-0525) to acquire a permit and someone to unlock the gate. Directions to Bellflower Cemetery ¡V from Exit 451 on I-75 (at Jasper) take US 129 South and travel 9/10 of a mile. Turn right onto CR 158 and travel 5.6 miles. Turn left onto CR 249 and travel 4.2 miles. On the left is the Suwannee Ridge parking area surrounded by wooden fence (the 911 address on the fence reads 7691 SW 67th Drive). Next to the parking area is a large sign designating Suwannee Ridge Wildlife and Environmental Area. The entrance to Suwannee Ridge is approximately 600 feet west of the parking area; the 911 address is posted on the fence 7631 SW 67th Drive (CR 249). All of the unpaved roadways within Suwannee Ridge have been given name designations. Take Entrance Road and turn left (east) onto Main Road. Travel Main Road to Cemetery [Rd]. Travel Cemetery to Confederate [Rd]. Turn right onto Confederate; approx.. 300 yards on the left hand side of the roadway there is a metal pipe in the ground designating the Bellflower Cemetery boundary line. To be standing south of the cemetery on Confederate Road looking North into the woods toward the cemetery you would be at Lat. N 30„J 27.204 and Lon. W 83„J 02.206 (the cemetery is not visible from the road). From this point walk straight into the woods to the cemetery at Lat N 30„J 27.235 and Lon. W 83„J 02.178. (Note: The property is protected for the management and preservation of gopher tortoises which are very important to local ecology. Their burrows provide homes for other wild animals, i.e. Gopher frogs, foxes, skunks, rabbits, quail, armadillos and many other animals.) Bellfower Cemetery was surveyed and photographed by Lesleigh Laite Butts on March 15, 2011.
