Reuben A. Griffin b. June 24, 1814 d. Dec 19, 1846, 1st MECS FLA Conf. Death. Additional Comments: Rev. Griffin is not buried here. This stone commemorates that he was the first Methodist Florida Conference death, he was serving Jasper First Methodist Church at the time. From I-75 at Jasper take exit 451 travel onto US 129 N and travel 4.8 miles. Turn left onto 5th Street, the church is one block down on 5th. The Memory Garden is on the NE side of the church, next to the sidewalk approach from Central Avenue to the Fellowship Hall. There is only one granite marker. This is a granite marker placed in honor of Rev. Reuben A Griffin b. June 24, 1814 d. Dec 19, 1846. Rev. Griffin was the first Florida Conference member death. He died while serving Jasper 1st United Methodist Church, however, he was not buried here.
