Marion Cemetery in Jasper, Hamilton, Florida off of CR 158.  Fifty-eight black 
slaves and two freed slaves from the Marion and Mitclell Plantations are 
buried alongside members of the Marion, McLeod and Reynolds families.

Ninty-two year old Shelton Mitchell grew up on the Mitchell Plantation which 
was beside the Marion Plantation. After moving back to Hamilton County Shelton 
discovered the cemetery in total disrepair made a vowed to restore it to the 
state of dignity it deserved. Shelton initiated the restoration project in 
spring 2012.  The county cleared the land so restoration could begin, funding 
and labor for the project was provided by Shelton Mitchell, Estelle Mitchell 
Reistad, Knute Reistad, John Adkins, Corneloius Adkins and LaJuana Mitchell 
Peterson.  Restoration was complete by July 2012.

On July 24, 2012 with over 50 people gathered for the re-dedication ceremony. 
Father George Hinchliffe, of Saint Luke's Episcopal Church in Live Oak, led 
with a prayer, recited Revilations 7:15-17, and re-dedication by declaring in 
the name of God that the cemetery is restored to the use for which it has been 
dedicated and consecrated and led the group in the Lord's Prayer. Shelton 
Mitchell then delighted the audiance with a recitation of the history of the 
plantation and cemetery as well as stories of some of the people buried 
there.
