PATCH. On April 1, 1922, CLARENCE L. PATCH rounded out twenty-one years of consecutive service in the Tampa Post Office. It is a long and honorable record, and unusual in the Postal Service. Mr. Patch for a number of years has been assistant postmaster, and he has an exact knowledge of every detail connected with this department of the Federal Government in Tampa. Mr. Patch has lived in Florida since boyhood. He was born at Smyrna, Michigan, August 22, 1882, son of ELMER A. and CARRIE (DOLLY) PATCH. His maternal grandfather was a physician at Smyrna. ELMER PATCH was born in Ionia, Michigan, and is now living at Muncie, Indiana. The mother died at the age of fifty-eight. CLARENCE L. PATCH is the oldest of five children, three of whom are living. He attended school in Michigan and finished his education at Orlando, Florida, where he arrived November 19, 1896, when a boy of fourteen. In the fall of 1899 he came to Tampa, and on April 1, 1901, at the age of eighteen, he began his service in the Tampa Post Office, at first as clerk, later as foreman, and in 1917 was raised to the grade of assistant postmaster. On November 7, 1905, Mr. Patch married Miss PEARL NASH, daughter of Rev. C. H. NASH, a retired Baptist minister of Tampa. They have five daughters: THELMA, CAROL, HELEN, MARJORIE and DORIS. Mr. Patch is affiliated with John Darling Lodge Number 154, F. and A. M., at Tampa, Prospect Lodge No. 38, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and is a member of the Civitan Club, the Palm Avenue Baptist Church, and in politics is a republican.
