He was born to a prominent family that had its roots in eastern North Carolina, mainly Bertie County, who could trace their heritage back to the Prince of Wales King Llewelyn. His grandfather, Watkins was a Captain in the Revolutionary War. Numerous members of the family had served in state and federal legislatures. His brother, Archibald, was elected as a representative of the Republic of Texas, helped in the effort to gain statehood and signed the legislation. It may be that Albert accompanied Archibald to Texas in 1837 as he did go to Texas to learn the practice of law. Albert returned to Tennesse without his brother and went into legal practice but apparently didn't like it as he soon took up farming and merchandising. He got married in 1852 and had a son George in 1855. Later he won an election to the Tennessee State Legislature but poor health forced him to resign. He thought that Florida would be more conducive to regaining his health so he moved to Hillsborough County where he was farming 40 acres when the 1860 Agriculture census was done. I believe he was in the process of homesteading the 40 acres when he suddenly died in December of 1860. His wife had him buried and not wanting to stay in Florida she abandoned their place and went home to Tennessee where she later got re-married. Albert laid in his grave undisturbed for over 100 years until Brandon Forest Subdivision was being built. The contractor ran over and destroyed his headstone. They were forced to replace the stone. A long time nearby resident supplied a photograph the original stone which was used to make a new one. When the subdivision was approved by the county a plot of land 30 x 49 with a 15 foot easement was signed over to the county. The county has refused to maintain the lot so the homeowners association takes care of it. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/fl/hillsborough/cemeteries/wynnmem.txt File size: 5.4 Kb
