D. One Thousand Nine Hundred and twenty one personally appeared before me, a T. L. Belser in and for the county and State aforesaid, James R. Adkins, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is 72 years of age, having been born on the 25 day of March, 1848, in the County of Pike, in the State of Alabama. That he is a bona fide citizen of the county of Holmes, State of Florida. That he has resided in the State of Florida continuously since the ____ day of December, 1884. That he is the identical person who enlisted at Sellers Cross Precient, [sic] under the name of James R. Adkins, on the 1st day of Oct., 1864, in Company Whitman Curry Regiment ____ of the State of Alabama in the service of the service was in the Confederate States Army and who was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at Sellers precient [sic], in the State of Alabama in the Spring of 1865. That I served faithfully until HONORABLY DISCHARGED from the service of the Confederate Army in the year 1865, and did not desert the service of the Confederate Army nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States until after the surrender of the Confederate Armies. (Here state whereabouts at close of Civil War.) That I was at Sellers precients when my company was disbanded. That I do not own property, including real estate, personal property, stocks, bonds, mortgages or other collateral securities of any kind in this or any other State, nor does my wife own with me jointly or separately, property to exceed in value the sum of five thousand dollars, exclusive of my or our home and one acre of land upon which said home stands. Adkins enlisted in Whitman Curry Company Regiment of the State of Ala. at Sellers Precient in the State of Ala., in the fall of 1864; that he served faithfully in the said organization until the Spring of 1865; when he was HONORABLY DISCHARGED on account of surrender at Sellers precient in the State of Ala., and did not desert the Confederate States service nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States before the close of the War. I know personally of the above stated service, because I served with James R. Adkins in Whitman Curry Co. Adkins, Bonifay, Florida Dear Sir: Your application for pension was considered by the Board a few days ago and denied for the reason that it appears that the Command in which you served as a Home Guard Company of Alabama, which service is not provided for under the Laws of this State. That he filed an application for a State pension for service rendered in the C.S.A. Army in the war between the states. SECOND. Your petitioner was represented by an attorney by the name of Minger, whose post office address at the time of filing the said claim was Bonifay, Florida. THIRD. Since filing the said claim in 1920, the only information received; was the acknowledeing [sic] the receipt of the filing of the said claim, in 1920, and that he your petitioner have know knowledge of any of the papers of letters if any was written touching the subject matter, as to his right to a State pension, and if any was written, your petition have reason to believe that, such papers or letters is in the possession of Lawyer Minger, and his where about now is personally unknown to your petitioner. Therefore he ask to be furnish with a copy, and true status of his claim filed for service rendered in the C.S.A., in the company of Captain Curry, company of the Home-Guard, in Jackson, County Florida, during the Yankee rade [sic] on Marianna, Florida, on the 27, day of September, 1864, and prior to the said rade.
