BRANDON, WILLIAM SCOTT, a member of the Brandon Mill and Elevator Company of Marianna, is a fine type of the courteous, dignified Southern gentleman, united to the energetic, successful, practical man of the Middle West. In him meet the best traits of the Cavalier and the Puritan, producing a breadth and solidarity of character which is proving one of the chief factors in his rapid advancement in business life. Mr. BRANDON was born September 1, 1891, at Clyde, Kansas, and is a son of WILLIAM L. and EVA (HAY) BRANDON. The Brandon family originated in England, whence members came to this country prior to the Revolutionary war, in which a number of the name participated. WILLIAM L. BRANDON, the paternal grandfather of WILLIAM SCOTT BRANDON, was born at Newcastle, Pennsylvania. The maternal grandfather was WILLIAM HAY, a native of Scotland, who on coming to the United States settled in Iowa. WILLIAM L. BRANDON, father of WILLIAM S., was born in Pennsylvania, and as a young man went to Kansas, where he met and married Miss HAY, who had been born in Iowa and had been taken as a child to the Sunflower state. For a number of years Mr. BRANDON was engaged in business in Kansas in operating grain elevators, but on a trip to the South noticed the need of elevators in this part of the country and accordingly changed his base of operations, being now associated with his son at Marianna and elsewhere. The greater part of his time is devoted to the building of elevators, a field in which he is an expert. He is highly esteemed both as a business man and a citizen. WILLIAM SCOTT BRANDON attended public school in Kansas and the Kansas Wesleyan University of Salina, that state, where he took a course in engineering. After his graduation, in 1911, he began his business career in association with his father in the grain business at Clyde. In 1916, seeing the possibilities of the elevator business in West Florida, they came to Marianna and established the Brandon Mill and Elevator Company, a partnership, doing a general milling and elevator business, in addition to which they carry on a wholesale grocery business. Their brand, "Clyde's Best", has attained wide popularity. Since coming to the South they have located and built thirty elevators at various places in Florida, Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi. Mr. BRANDON is one of the progressive young business men of his community, and in addition to his business activities has identified with various civic movements. He is not interested in politics save as a good citizen who supports men and measures which he believes will be of benefit to the locality, its institutions and its people. As a fraternalist he is affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Blue Lodge of Masonry. With his family he holds membership in the Presbyterian Church. In October, 1915, at Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Mr. BRANDON married ADELINE FLEMING, daughter of S. F. and ADELINE FLEMING, natives of Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. BRANDON have two children: HARRIET MARIE and ELEANOR.
