I, Mrs. Sena Ayers, do hereby make application to the State Board of Pensions, for an annuity upon the following grounds: I am the widow of John Ayers deceased, who departed this life on the 16th day of December, A. D. 1862, in the county of Liberty in the State of Florida. I was married to him on the 11th day of Sept., A. D. 1862 in the county of Calhoun in the State of Florida. I have not remarried since the death of my said husband John Ayers. My husband the said John Ayers enlisted and served in the (Military or Naval) Military service of the (What State or Confederate States) State of Florida during the war between the States of the United States, and he did not desert the Confederate or State service. I was a resident of the State of Florida on January 1st, 1890 and have since continuously resided in this State, that I do not own property, real or personal, to the value of eight hundred dollars. What is your name, and where and when were you born? Sena Ayers; Born Sept. 10th, 1838, in the State of Ga. 2. Are you the widow of? Yes John Ayers? Yes 3. When and where you married to John Ayers? In Calhoun County, Fla., Sept 11, 1862. 4. When and where did he die? Died at Alum Bluff, Liberty Co., Fla., Dec. 16th, 1862. 5. Have you remarried since the death of your husband? No 6. When and in what company or organization did your husband enlist during the war between the States? Co. “F”, First Fla. Batallion. 7. Did he desert that service? No 8. Of what State and county are you a resident? Jackson Co., and State of Fla. 9. How long have you resided in this State? Since I was a small child, about nine or ten years old, except 6 years lived in Ala. 10. From what date have you continuously resided in this State? Ever since 9 or 10 yrs old, except 6 years when I lived in Ala. 11. Have you lived in any other State than Florida? Born in Ga., Lived 6 years in Ala., and the rest of the time in Florida. 12. If you answer yes, give name of the State or States and when you resided there? From 1838 to about 1848 in Ga; Fla 1848 to 1878; Ala 1878 to 1884; Fla 1884 to 1905, the present time. 13. Do you own any real or personal property? Don’t own anything. 14. What is the total value of your real and personal property? --------------------- 15. Of what does your real and personal property consist? Live with a son and do not posess (sic) anything except my wearing clothes. 16. Have you any income from any source and how much yearly? No. 17. Bailey who appeared as witnesses in support of the application of Mrs. Sena Ayers, for an annuity under the laws of the State of Florida, providing for annuities for widows of deceased Confederate Soldiers and Sailors of the State of Florida, and said witnesses after being duly sworn true answers to make to the following questions, each for himself deposes and says: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? William Ayers, Chafin, Fla., Jesse W. Bailey, Chipola, Fla. 2. How long have you known the applicant? (both witnesses ans.) 44 years. 3. Where does she reside and how long has she been a resident of this State? (both ans.) In Jackson Co., Florida. Been a resident of this State 44 years. 4. Were you acquainted with her husband? Ct. in and for said county and State, Mrs. Sena Ayers, aged 65 years, who being by me duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain the pension provided by Act of the Legislature, approved June 6, 1903, for indigent widows of deceased Confederate soldiers and sailors: That she is the lawful widow of John Ayers who enlisted about 15 day of Sept., 1862 in Captain John Ellis Company F first Fla. Bertalion (sic) Regt Regiment of the State of Florida and who [was] on the 16th day of Dec., 1862, at Alum Bluff in the State of Florida [killed in battle or honorably discharged from said service, and] died on the 16th day of December, 1862, [at his home] in Liberty County. John Ayers died in hospital at Alum Bluff, Fla that she was legally married to said soldier prior to the first day of January, 1885, at Abe Springs in the State of Florida; that she has been a bona fide resident of the State of Florida continuously, since the first day of January, A. D. 1890; that she does not own property, real and personal, to the value of $800 in this or any other State, and is not otherwise enabled or in a position to earn a livelihood, and has no income from any source sufficient for a livelihood; and that she has not purposely disposed of any property for the purpose of availing herself of the provisions of this act. The children of parents who are unable to support themselves, shall be required to make provisions for their support. 2078. On information filed before the Justice of the Peace of the proper district by any person whomsoever, stating that certain persons have made no adequate provisions for their father and mother, or either of them, the Justice shall cause a summons to be issued to said parties, and evidence to be taken as to the truth of the facts stated in the information, and if the same shall be found true, after a fair trial in which the defendants shall have the right to be heard by counsel, the Justice shall issue an order making an assessment on the said children for such amount as shall be necessary for the support of their parents. 2079. Said order shall carry with it the right of enforcement, and shall have the force and effect of a writ of garnishment on the wages of such children, and shall further provide for the person to whom and the manner in which the money assessed therein shall be paid. On a muster roll of the company for November and December, 1863 (last on which borne), he is reported absent without leave since August 30, reported deserter since April 30, 1863. John Ayer was wounded by accident on May at Olustee. W. M. Ayer was to have died at Alum Bluff in 1862. Your application shows that it was John Ayer who died at Alum Bluff.
