H. Allbritton, do hereby make application to the State Board of Pensions, for a pension to be granted to me under the laws of the State of Florida, upon the following grounds: I enlisted and served in the military service of the ____ during the war between the States of the United States, and that I did not desert the Confederate or State service; that I was a bona-fide citizen of this State on the 1st day of January A. D., 1885, and have been continuously since a citizen of the State of Florida, and that I (Here state fully the disability under which the applicant claims a pension, whether he lost in service a limb or limbs, eye or eyes, or whether he is permanently disabled by reason of wounds received in service, or disease, to gain a livelihood by manual labor, or whether is over 65 years of age and is by reason of age incapable of providing a living for himself.) I have lost my hearing caused by the bursting of a shell during the war at the Battle of Gettysburg, Penn. I have lost one of my eyes, the right eye. I further represent to the State Board of Pensions, that neither I nor my wife own property, real or personal, or real and personal to the value of eight hundred dollars, that I am not enabled by any lawful means to earn a livelihood for myself, nor am I in a position to do so, nor have I an income from any source sufficient for my support, nor have I purposely disposed of property with the object of availing myself of the benefits of the provisions of the law providing annuities for disabled soldiers and sailors of the State of Florida. How long have you been a citizen of the State of Florida? about 40 years 4. When and where and in what organization did you enlist during the war between the States? Mch 4, 1862, Blackshear, Georgia Co. "A" 50 Ga. Regt. 5. Give the name of your Captain at the time of your enlistment. Capt. ? 6. Give the name of your Captain at time of your discharge from service. If discharged prior to the termination of the war, state place and cause of discharge. 10. If you lost an eye or limb during your service in the war, state when and where and in what engagement you sustained such injury 11. If you received a wound during your service in the war, which permanently disables you, state when and where you received the wound. I lost my hearing at the Battle of Gettysburg, Penn. 12. Describe the wound and state how it affects you. 13. How many acres of land owned by you or your wife, or that is held in trust for the benefit of either of you, and in what counties is it located? I own my home 40 acres 14. Describe the personal property owned by you or your wife, or held for your or your wife's benefit. (This kind of property means all kinds of property not included in the term lands.) 15. Have you or your wife any income from any source? If so, what amount yearly? No 16. Have you sold, given away, or transferred for any consideration, within the past two years any property, real or personal? No 17. If in answer to question 16 you say yes, describe the property real and personal, give value, and name of person to whom transferred and date of transfer. 18. Are you now engaged in any vocation? Parkhill Clerk Circuit Court Jefferson County (FORM C) Affidavit To Be Made By Commissioned Officer STATE OF GEORGIA} County of Ware} Before me personally came Lazarus Dowling, who being duly sworn deposes and says, that he was a non Commissioned Officer in the 50 Ga Regiment, the organization to which the within named applicant for pension under the laws of Florida belonged and in which he served during the war between the States. This deponent further says that the said J. H. Allbritton rendered faithful service as a Confederate soldier during the war between the States, and that the disability claimed by the said can't ans. to exist, does in fact exist and the same prevents him permanently from gaining a livelihood. Dowling, who being by me first duly sworn, depose and say, each for himself, that he is a citizen of the County of Pierce in the State of Georgia and that he was a soldier of 50th Ga. regiment in the service of the Confederate States during the war between the States, and that said D. W. & L. Dowling was a member of said regiment; that he is acquainted with J. H. Allbritton, the applicant named in the foregoing petition for a pension; that he knows that the said J. H. Allbritton rendered the service as soldier or sailor for the Confederate States during the war between the States as set forth in the foregoing petition for a pension. That he did not desert the Confederate army, and that the disability claimed by him to exist, does in fact exist and prevents him from earning a livelihood for himself, and these deponents being further sworn true answer to make to the following questions, deposes each for himself and answers as follows: 1. Where do you reside? Pierce County, Ga. 2. Are you acquainted with the within named applicant for a pension, if so, what is his name? Where does he reside? and how long has he resided in this State? Bott, who being by me first duly sworn, deposes and says, that he is the Adjutant of Camp No. 59 Patton Anderson of the United Confederate Veterans of the County of Jefferson in the State of Fla. That he knows J. H. Allbritton, the within named applicant for pension under the laws of Florida, that the said applicant was a soldier or sailor in the service of the Confederate States during the war between the States, and that he rendered faithful service, did not desert the Confederate army, that he is a member in good standing of Camp No. 59 Patton Anderson of the United Confederate Veterans. This deponent further says that he has carefully examined the said applicant's physical condition and finds: (Here state nature, character and extend of wounds, disease or disability.) I find that he has practically lost his hearing and he is totaly [sic] blind in his right eye and from reason of his age that of nearly 65 years he is incompetent to perform manual labor whereby he is to earn a living. One Thousand Nine Hundred and nine personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for the county and State aforesaid, James Henry Albritton who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is 65 years of age, having been born on the 2 day of August, 1844 in the county of Ware, in the State of Georgia. That he is a bona fide citizen of the county of Jefferson, State of Florida. That he has resided in the State of Florida continuously since the 1st day of January, 1871. That he is the identical person who enlisted at Blackshear, Ga. under the name of J. H. Albritton, on the 4 day of March 1862, in Company A, Regiment 50th of the State of Ga. in the service of the Confederate States. (Here give date and place of capture, imprisonment, exchange or parole.) I was captured on the retreat from Richmond on 2nd of April 1865 and was under guard until end of war. That I served faithfully until HONORABLY DISCHARGED from the service of the ____ in the year 186_, and did not desert the service of the ____ nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States until after the surrender of the Confederate Armies. (Here state whereabouts at close of Civil War.) That I was in Washington City at time of parole from where I was paroled and came home. That I do not own property, including real estate, personal property, stocks, bonds, mortgages or other collateral securities of any kind in this or any other State, nor does my wife own with me jointly or separately, property to exceed in value the sum of five thousand dollars. The records show that one James Allbritton, private, Company A, 50th Georgia Infantry, Confederate States Army, was enlisted March 4, 1862, at Blackshear. On a muster roll of this company for January and February, 1865, last roll on file, he is reported present. No later record found. The records show, however, that one J. H. Albertson, private, 50th Regiment Georgia, Confederate States Army, was received at Washington, D. C., March 18, 1865, from the Army of the James, as a refugee or rebel deserter; that he took the oath and that transportation was furnished him to St. Augustine, Florida, date not stated. No later record found, nor has this name been found on the rolls of the 50th Georgia Infantry, Confederate States Army. F. C.
