Dear Sir: Norman Allen who is an applicant for a pension under the laws of Florida, claims to to (sic) have been a member of Company H 10th Fla Regiment Inf., Confederate States Army, and to have been……………………………………………………………………. ……………………………………………………………………………………………… ……………………………………………………………………………………………… Please furnish me with the record of this soldier. Yours very truly, W. V. Knott, Comptroller Page 010 Adjutant General’s Office 2090633 War Department Oct 23 1913 War Department, The Adjutant General’s Office 2090633 Washington October 24, 1913. Respectfully returned to the Comptroller, State of Florida, Tallahassee. The name Norman Allen has not been found on the rolls, on file in this office, of Co. H or any other company of the 10th Florida Infantry, C.S.A., and no prisoner of war record has been found of a man of this name and organization. The 10th Florida Infantry, C.S.A., was formed by the consolidation of six companies of the 1st Battalion (Hopkins) Florida Infantry and four companies of the 2d Battalion Florida Infantry, C.S.A. The records show that one Norman Allen served as a private in Co. C (Captain J. Q. Stewart), 2d Battalion Florida Infantry, C.S.A., and that he enlisted August 2, 1862, at Jasper, Florida. On company roll for November an December, 1862, last on which his name appears, he was reported: “Absent without leave since muster.” The records also show that one Norman Allen, private, Co. D. 9th Florida Infantry, C.S.A., enlisted October 6, 1962, at Columbus, Florida. His name is borne on only one roll of the company, viz: the company muster-in roll, dated Columbus, Florida, January 15, 1863, without remark as to his presence or absence, - the following remark relative to him: “Belongs to J. Q. Stewart’s Co.” No later record of him has been found. (J. Q. Stewart was captain of Co. C, 2d Battalion Florida Infantry, C.S.A.). It is possible that he is identical with the man whose record is given above. However, the records do not indicate any connection between the 2d Battalion Florida Infantry and the 9th Florida Infantry, C.S.A. Geo. Andrews The Adjutant General. Page 011 (B) (Claim No. 19538) I hereby certify that during the Civil War that I was a comrade of Norman Allen, whose widow is an applicant for a pension from the State of Florida, that I served with him in John Q. Stewarts Company of the Tenth Florida Infant. Regt. and that the answers to the following questions are true and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief.
