Enlistment: "In Feb 1959, thru James C. Hunter, Co Serv Ofset, Taverse, Fla. we 
            obtained from the Probate Judge in Anderson County, S.C. a copy of 
            my application for pension with the state of S.C. which was executed 
            in 1923.  This application had a statement by two persons certifying 
            that they had personal knowledge that the subject person served in 
            the Confederate Army.  This application was approved by the State of 
            S.C. and on this basis, she drew a pension from S.C.  A copy of this 
            Application was furnished to the Veterans Administration in Feb 1959 
            and on the basis of same, the VA is now paying to Mrs. Smith a 
            pension."  
Discharge:  

Note:  "Drew a pension from the State of South Carolina in the amount of $200.00 
       per year, which I will be glad to cancel if granted a pension from the 
       State of Florida."

           Carolina on 27th May 1897 in Anderson County, South Carolina

This is to certify that I, Nanley Smith, as a resident of Anderson, South 
Carolina.  I am 71 years of age.  I am a nephew of the late Chalmage C. Smith.  
I was present when Chalmage C. Smith married Betty Cox at Belton, South Carolina 
on May 27, 1897.  I was a witness to this ceremony.  The marriage took place in 
the home of Betty Cox and was preformed by the Reverend Mac McGee.

This is to certify that I, Blanche Browning, as a resident of Greenville, South 
Carolina.  I am 72 years of age.  I am a niece of the late Chalmage C. Smith, 
now deceased.  I was present when Chalmage C. Smith married Betty Cox at Belton, 
South Carolina on May 27, 1897.  I was a witness to this ceremony.  The marriage 
took place at the home of Betty Cox.  The marriage was preformed by the Reverend 
Mac McGee.
