James E. Bartley, 74, of Howey-in-the-Hills died Sunday Dec. 12, 1999. 
Survivors include his wife, Billie; daughters, Rosa Newsome, and Robin Hopkins 
both of Howey-in-the-Hills, Valary Sykes of Pikeville, Ky.; brothers, Chris of 
Pikeville, Ky., Bilie James of Ohio, and Gene of Kingsport, Tenn.; sister, 
Etta Mae Williams of Pideville, Ky.; four grandchildren;and four great-
grandchildren.

Additional Comments:
He was a retired coal miner an a Baptist. He was a member of the United Mine 
Workers Union.
