Myers, FL. He was born in Columbia, South Carolina February 8, 1937 as the son of Rufus Bridges and Sarah Beckham Jennings. Rufus grew up in south Georgia and north Florida. He graduated from Leon High School in Tallahasse in 1955 and graduated from Florida State University in 1959. He then moved to Maryland to attend John Hopkins Medical School, where he graduated in 1963. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins, and then returned to complete his fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Hoplins after several years in the U.S Navy. In 1970 Rufus met his wife, a Navy nurse at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, N.H. They were married in 1971. After resigning his commission in 1973, he began work at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia as a pediatric cardiologist. In 1994 he and his wife moved to Ft. Myers. Rufus leaves behind his wife of 40 years, a son and daughter and their spouses and two grandsons and his sister. A memorial service will be held at Faith United Methodist at 1 PM on October 29, 2011, Ft. Myers.
