Massing left our presence December 13, 2011 to be with his Savior. He was born on a farm in Vermillion County, Illinois, October 4, 1918. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, a son and his family, and five granchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Monte. He served as a US Army Staff Sergent in the Pacific Theater of WWII in the Philipines and among the occupation forces in Japan. He retired to Florida after 31 years civil service as a Data Systems Analyst for the Air Force Logistics Command, Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. In retirement he developed and managed a retail nursery out for Stahlman and Sons. In 1977, he establised the business, Massing Sheds and Garages in Fort Myers and Port Charlotte, now in the third generation of family management. His lifelong love of gardening led him to become a Master Gardener in 2000 with the Lee County Extension Services, assigned to develop a butterfly garden at the headquarters in Fort Myers. Viewing will be held from 1:30-2:45 PM, Sunday, December 18, at Fort Myers First United Methodist Church followed by a memorial service beginning at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice, Cape Coral. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens.
