 John G. Powers Jr., 80, of Glenview and Ft. Myers, FL pased away October 14, 
2011. He is survived by his wife, four sons, three daughters and cherished 
grandchildren.
 Mr. Powers was a 1948 graduate of New Trier High School and a 1952 graduate 
of Marquette University where he was a member of the National Catholic 
Champinship Basketball team in 1951. He was a veteran of U.S Army during the 
Korean War serving in Anchorage, AK. John began his career with Signode Corp. 
in March 1958 as a plant engineer at Signode's Steel strapping operations in 
Chicago. In 1982, John became the President of Signode's domestic Packaging 
Division and later in 1985 he was promoted to President of Signode's global 
Packaging Division. After ITW's acquisition of Signode in 1986, John was 
elected Executive Vice President by ITW's Board of Directors, a position he 
held until his retirement in 1993.
 Visitation Sunday, October 16, 2011 from 3-8 p.m at N.H Scott & Hanekamp 
Funeral Home, Glenview. Funerl mass Monday, October 17 2011 at 12 Noon at St. 
Thomas Becket Church, Mt. Prospect. Interment All Saints Cemetery.
