 Max G. Rieves, 82, of Fort Myers, FL died on November 2, 2011 at Hope 
Hospice, Fort Myers. He was born on December 25, 1928 in Greensboro, NC, the 
only child of Max and Pearl (Garland) Rieves.
 He graduated from Lees McCrae College and Appalachian State College and did 
his doctoral studies at Florida State University. He served in the Navy as a 
medical assistant in the Korean Conflict.
 Max was a founding member of the Manatee Junior College in 1958 and in 1962 
he joined the team of administrators in starting Edison Community College 
where he served as Vice President of Student Affairs for over 30 years until 
his retirement in 1991. A driving force in mental health issues, it was under 
his leadership that the Ruth Cooper Center was created. 
 Husband of the late Phyllis (VanVolkom) Rieves who died in December 2008 
after 54 years of marriage. He is survived by his son and daughter and their 
families. 
 A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 11:00 AM in 
the Beach United Methodist Church, Fort Myers Beach.
