 Laura Bither Steidel, 98,passed away November 14, 2011. Laura was born on 
March 30, 1913 in the samll rural town of Canaan, New York. She was the oldest 
of three children. Laura graduated from Syracuse University in 1934 with a 
B.A. degree in Journalism. She obtained her teaching credentials and taught 
school in nearby Lebanon, N.Y teaching grades 1-8 in a one room schoolhouse. 
In the early 1940's she transferred to Long Island, N.Y and taught fourth 
grade. It was on Long Island that she met and then married Albert Steidel in 
1944.
 After the war Albert and Laura returned to Canaan. Laura continued teaching 
elementary school and became principal of the Canaan Elementary School until 
she retired. Laura and Albert moved to Florida in 1984.
 Laura is survived by her two children, a son and daughter and their families. 
 A memorial service will be announced at a later time. All arrangements have 
been made by the National Cremation Society.
