 Longtime Fort Myers, FL seasonal resident and educator Dr. John Raymond 
Swanda Jr. died of natural causes on May 13, 2012 at Gulf Coast Medical 
Center, Ft. Myers. He was born in Schuyler, Nebraska, on July 5, 1936 to John 
Raymond Sr. and Margaret Swanda (nee Weber). John was married to his lovely 
wife for 44 years. 
 After receiving his doctorate in 1968, John and his wife moved to South Bend, 
IN where he was given a professorship in the Business and Economics Department 
at Indiana University South Bend. As he rose through the ranks at IYSB to 
become Director of their MBA program in 1978. A 32 year career culminated with 
becoming Dean of the department in 1995. John retired in 2000.
 He is survived by his son and daughter and their families, three 
grandchildren, and sister and sister-in-law.
