He had been ill several weeks. Mathis was the father of Nolan Mathis of Fort Myers and the brother of Henry and J. W. Mathis of this city and of Mrs. Willie Harn of LaBelle. Other survivors include a son, Burton Mathis of Sarasota; three daughters, Mrs. Jimmy Stroud and Mrs. Forrest Scott, both of Sarasota, and Mrs. Arzelia Ketler of West Palm Beach; a brother Ruby Mathis of Tampa; and two sisters, Mrs. Etta Sloan and Mrs. Will DeVane, both of Tampa. Surviving also are 14 grandchildren and two great grand- children. Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. in Sarasota and buriel will be in Joshua Creek Cemetery at Arcadia.
