AUSLEY, CHARLES MERRITT, M. D.  Along with an extensive practice as a physician and surgeon 
at Tallahassee, where he has lived over twenty years, Doctor AUSLEY has formed and maintained
important relations with business enterprises and with practically every public spirited 
movement undertaken during that time for the advancement and improvement of the city.  His 
associates know him as a progressive in the best sense of the term, always alive to the real 
interests of his community.

Doctor AUSLEY was born at Camden, South Carolina, March 22, 1879, son of JOHN CURRY and MARY 
(McCASKILL) AUSLEY.  His father was born at Lumber Bridge, North Carolina, and died at Slocum, 
Alabama, in 1919, at the age of seventy-two.  The mother was a native of Camden, South Carolina, 
and died in 1903, aged forty-nine.  JOHN C. AUSLEY throughout his active business career was 
in the sawmill and turpentine industry, and his home and business headquarters for varying 
lengths of time were in South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.  He retired 
from business about ten years before his death.  In every community where he lived he was 
active in establishing or maintaining a Baptist Church.

CHARLES MERRITT AUSLEY, second in a family of four children, spent most of his boyhood at 
Bainbridge, Georgia.  He was educated in the public schools, attended the University of 
Tennessee three years, and in 1901 graduated M. D. from the medical department of the University
of Maryland at Baltimore.  He was a member of the Phi Chi fraternity.  Doctor AUSLEY located
at Tallahassee in June, 1901, and has been busy in a general practice of medicine ever since. 
He is surgeon at Tallahassee for the Seaboard Air Line and the Georgia, Florida and Alabama 
railroads.  He is a member of the Florida State Medical Association, and during the World 
war he served as a member of the District Examining Board, with supervision over ten counties
in West Florida.

The upbuilding of the town is his hobby and the object of his careful study.  He is a good 
road enthusiast, has served ten years on the city council, was city health officer three 
years, and one of the original directors of the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce.  He is a 
director of the Capital City Bank, and is now serving his second term as commissioner of 
the Third District of Leon County, being chairman of the board.  He is interested in the 
lumber and saw mill business as a member of the firm of AUSLEY-McMATH Company at Perry, Florida.

In 1906, at Tallahassee, Doctor AUSLEY married Miss BESSIE M. SAXON, daughter of GEORGE W. 
and SARAH (BALL) SAXON.  Her father has been one of the most influential men of Tallahassee, 
was formerly a member of the firm G. W. SAXON & Company, bankers, and later organized and 
became president of the Capital City Bank, from which he retired in 1920.  He and his wife 
are still living at Tallahassee.  Doctor and Mrs. AUSLEY have four children, named CHARLES 
SAXON, MARGARET McCASKILL, JOHN CURRY and HELEN SAXON.
