Mr. Anderson stated in his claim for pensions that he was born on the 1st day of August, 1848, in Madison County, Florida; that he enlisted first in the home guard of Madison County, and was allowed in October 1864, to go to West Florida Seminary in Tallahassee and was given leave of absence to join the Cadets of The West Florida Seminary, Tallahassee, Florida. He was under General William Miller at Newport and Natural Bridge March 5, 6 & 7, 1865, at other times relieved regular troopes (sic) in guarding R. R. bridge, commissary depot in Madison and guarding Federal prisoner. Never regularly discharged but disbanded at Tallahassee in April of 1865, on account of the Surrender. After the death of Mr. Anderson, which occurred on the 13th day of Nov. 1916, his widow, Mrs. Alice Polk Anderson received a pension. He was married to Alice Polk on the 15th day of January, 1903. After the death of Mr. Anderson she married Mr. John R. Willis at Bronson, Florida, on May 24, 1922. I mention this so that you may determine whether this is a record of your father’s service or not.
