However, it has been immortalized in time by the writings of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, especially the novel, THE YEARLING. It is a lightly populated area setting just to the east of the Ocklawaha River, northeast of the world famous Silver Springs. At one time there was a Grahamville Landing on the Ocklawaha for the river boats going from the St Johns River, to the Ocklawaha River, to the Silver River, arriving at Silver Springs. The landings along the Ocklawaha provided wood for the steamboats and venison for their passengers. The cemetery is off Hwy 314 about 5 miles north of Hwy 40 at the east edge of the Ocala National Forest. It is approximately one acre in size and there are indications of many graves. But there are only about 5 headstones or remenants of stones left as of August, 2001. Additional information and photographs of individual stones are available from submitter via email. At the entrance there is a large stone, erected in 1992, that bears the following inscriptions: GIBSON, Allen Jr., No Dates GIBSON, Nolie R., No Dates HENSON, Sally H., b. No Date d.
