Secretary of Board T. J. Appleyard, Inc., Tallahassee, Florida Return to W. R. Freer, Belleview Page 006 Dec. 20th, 1930 Mr. Brutus E. Bidault, Belleview, Florida. Dear Sir: With reference to your application for pension, I wish to advise that you state that you have been a citizen of this State since September 1st, 1928, and under the general pension law in order to be entitled to a pension, and (sic) applicant must have been a continuous bona fide citizen and resident of Florida for eight consecutive years in order to be eligible to pension. I note also that you state you were enrolled on the “Lodebar”, a school ship, however, this would not entitle you to a pension as you would be required to have enlisted and served on A Confederate Boat in order to be eligible to pension in this State on account of service rendered during the Civil War, to the Confederacy. Under the general pension law of this State an applicant for pension is required to furnish proof of service by soldiers or sailors serving with the applicant or by Official Transcript. I have been unable to obtain Official Transcript of your service and you have not furnish (sic) affidavits of sailors serving with you, therefore, you have not furnished proof of your service as required by law. Yours very truly, Secretary, Pension Board. /B Page 007 LM Office Of Naval Records And Library Navy Department Washington, D. C. 19 November, 1930. Dear Sir, I am in receipt of your letter of 14 November 1930 in which you request the naval record of one Brutus E. We are desirous of assisting in this case in every possible way, so if Mr. Bidault can recall any further details, such as dates, proper name of ship or ships on which he served, we shall search farther.
