Martin’s Artillery Regiment Florida, Confederate States Army, and to have [been] died at Lake City, Fla., of pneumonia in May 1862. Please furnish me with the record of this soldier. Respectfully returned to the Comptroller, State of Florida, Tallahassee. The records show that William E. Jordan, private, Captain Jno. M. Martin’s Company, Marion Light Artillery, Florida (latterly called Perry’s Company, Florida Light Artillery), C.S.A., enlisted Dec. 12, 1861, and that he died at Lake City, Fla., May 27, 1862. H. T. (surname illegible) The Adjutant General. Form No. 74- A.G.O. Ed. Mar. 17-15—75,000 Page 012 State of Florida, Marion County. Before the undersigned authority personally came Martha J. King, who being duly sworn, says that her maiden name was Martha J. Sturdevant; that she was married to William E. Jordan about the year 1853 or 1854; that she and the soldier, William E. Jordan, lived together as man and wife until the 27th day of May, 1862, when the soldier while in service in Martin’s Artillery, died; that this affiant remarried about the year 1876 to one Alexander Harris in Putnam County, Florida, but lived and resided in Marion County. This affiant lived with the said Harris as man and wife until the year 1881. The said Alexander Harris in January, 1881, died. This affiant in 1897, married Henry King, living with the said Henry King as his wife until his death, which occurred in the summer or fall of 1898. This affiant is now the widow of Henry King, formerly the widow of William E. Jordan; that since the death of the said King this affiant has never remarried; that she is now 78 years old, owns no property, or interest in any property whatever, except ten head of cattle worth about $10.00 or $12.00 per head. Smith, who being duly sworn, say that they were well acquainted with Mrs. Martha J. Harris, widow of Alexander Harris; that the said Harries died about the year 1881, and that during the year 1897, the said widow Harris married one Henry King, and lived with the said King as his wife until some time in the summer or fall of 1898, at which the said Henry King died; that the said parties are residents of [Marion] Putnam County, Florida.
