That she is the widow of David Turner who was enlisted under the name of David Turner on the 6th day of September, 1861, in Company “C” Second Regiment of the State of Florida Cavalry and who was honorably discharged at Close of the war in 1865, on account of surrender. Adjutant General’s Office 2111922 War Department Jan 2 – 1914 Address: “The Adjutant General, War Department, Washington, D.C.” War Department, The Adjutant General’s Office 2111922 Washington, January 3, 1914. Respectfully returned to the Comptroller, State of Florida, Tallahassee. The Confederate records of this office show that one William R. Johns, private, Company F, 5th Regiment Florida Infantry, C.S.A., was enlisted May 8, 186_ (date of enlistment also recorded as May 17, 186_). The muster roll of the company for September and October, 1863, shows him, “Trans. By exchange to Capt. Mooty’s Co. in Fla. July 31, 1863”. A descriptive list dated August 31, 1862, of Company F, 5th Florida Infantry, C.S.A., shows that one W_. R. Johns, aged 29 years, enlisted May 16, 1862, at Hamilton, Florida, by Captain Frink. A pay account dated May 15, 1863, shows him paid commutation of rations while on 60 days furlough; also that on November 12, 1862, he was paid monthly pay from July 1, 1862, to August 31, 1862. The Confederate records further show that one William R. Johns, private, Company F, 9th Regiment Florida Infantry, C.S.A. (formerly known as Captain Mooty’s Independent Company Florida Volunteers, C.S.A.), was enlisted June 8, 186_ (date of enlistment also recorded as July 30, 1863, and as July 31, 1863). His name first appears on the muster roll of the company, dated August 31, 1863, with remark, “Exchanged with G. D. Tillis.” The muster roll for September and October, 1864 (last on file), shows him “Absent sick.” The prisoners of war records show that one _ Riley Johns (not borne as William R. Johns), private, Company F, 9th Regiment Florida Infantry, C.S.A., was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, April 9, 1865. Martin, who first being duly sworn, says,- That he was well acquainted with David Turner during his life time, and that he, the said David Turner is the identical person who served in the war between the States, in Company “C” Second Florida Cavalry, and that he, the said David Turner married Zelma Galbraith, now Zelma Turner Turner – the applicant for pension, on or about the 5th. Day of January 1893, and that the said David Turner departed this life on or about 21st. day of May, A.D., 1894, in the County of Marion and State of Florida.
