The records back in 1867 were poorly kept. I would like to have his confederate army record and since he drew this pension I wondered if his record would be on file at your office. If it is, would you kindly advise me and how I could obtain a copy as I would like to have this record, dates etc. for family history. If there is not a copy on file at your office could you tell me where I could obtain one. I am enclosing a stamped, addressed envelope for your reply. Dear Mr. Burry: I wish to acknowledge receipt of your letter of May 20th, with reference to your grandfather’s claim for Confederate pension. I am enclosing copy of the applications he filed in August of 1909, and Sept. 11, 1901, for your information with reference to his enlistment and service during the War between the States. The records also show that his widow, Mrs. Eliza Jane Vaughn, to whom he was married on April 9, 1867, in Alachua County, Florida. Her name was Eliza Jane Cooper before her marriage. Mr. Vaughn died on the 3rd day of March, 1925, in Marion County, Florida. She received pension under Certificate No. 4968, after Mr. Vaughn’s death. With best wishes, I am, Yours very truly, Ray E. Vaughn and his wife, Eliza Jane Cooper practically all of her life, and that while she was not present at their marrigae (sic) ceremony, she knows that they were married at Micanopy Florida and have lived together as man and wife until Benjamin F.
