Soldiers and Widows of Soldiers who were mustered into regular service of the Confederate States Army and members of the State Troops and Home Guards of Florida, upon proper proof, are entitled to a pension under Act of June, 1917. Veal, (the initial ‘O’ having been added to my name after the war) who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is 62 years of age, having been born on the 24 day of September, 1847, in the county of Fairfield, in the State of South Carolina. That he is a bona fide citizen of the county of Marion, State of Florida. That he has resided in the State of Florida continuously since the --- day of -----, 1866. That he is the identical person who enlisted at Camden South Carolina under the name of W. R. Veal, on the ….day of September, 1861, in Company “K”, Regiment 7th S.C. Cavelry (sic) of the State of South Carolina in the service of the Confederate States Army. (Here state whether the service claimed was in the Confederate States Army or in the service of a State.) and who was Honorably Discharged at Appomatox (sic) Court House in the State of Virginia, on the 9th day of April, 1865, on account of the surrender of General Robert E. Lee. (Here state fully any other military service performed by the applicant.) The latter part of my service I acted as Courier for General Beauregard, being detailed for that purpose. (Here give date and place of capture, imprisonment, exchange or parole.) I was captured through the surrender of General Robt. E. Lee at Appomatox (sic) Court House, April 9th, 1865. That I served faithfully until Honorably Discharged from the service of the Confederate States Army in the year 1865, and did not desert the service of the Confederate States Army, nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States until after the surrender of the Confederate Armies.
