D. One Thousand Nine Hundred and Thirty Six, personally appeared before me a County Judge in and for the County and State aforesaid Mrs. Lissie Edwards a resident of Okaloosa County, State of Florida, who being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain a pension under the provisions of the General Pension Laws of Florida. That is the lawful widow of John R. Edwards who enlisted under the name of J. R. Edwards . That she was lawfully married to the said John R. Edwards under the name of Lissie Vance in the County of Pike State of Alabama on the 9th day of November, 1902, and that she was not divorced from him before nor has she remarried since his death, which occurred on the 17th day of May, 1927, in the County of Pike, State of Alabama, except as hereinafter stated. That she is a resident of Okaloosa County, Florida, and has continuously resided in the State of Florida since the 15th day of November, 1926. That she was heretofore granted a pension from the State of Florida under Certificate No. ____. That she is not a pensioner of any other State. Alex Brantley Judge of Probate ******************************************************************************* Report of County Commissioners We, the undersigned, County Commissioners in and for the County of Okaloosa, Florida, do hereby report that at a meeting of the Board of County Commissioners held this day, the foregoing application of Mrs. Lissie Edwards for a pension under the Laws of Florida, was investigated by us; that we are satisfied that the applicant has been a bona fide citizen of the State of Florida for eight years just preceding the date of this application, and that the representations made in the petition and affidavits are true, and that a pension should be granted the applicant. If you can furnish the name of the Company or number of the regiment in which he served, I may be able to obtain an Official Transcript of his service. I wrote to Washington but it was impossible to obtain an official record of his service with this information, but if the Number, of the Regiment or name of the Company can be obtained, it may be that I can get something definite that will assist in the consideration of her claim. Dear Miss Bowen: I find that one J. R. Edwards enlisted in Harris County, Ga., in which Waverly Hall is located, as a private in Co. A, 5th Regiment Georgia State Guards Infantry. This regiment was mustered into service for a term of six months. Our records give only the muster-in date so I have requested the War Department to furnish me a record of his service in this company. If Mr. Edwards remained in service until 1865, he must have enlisted in another command as this company was mustered-in Aug. 4, 1863, and mustered-out about February 1864.
