One Thousand Nine Hundred and 25, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public in and for the county and State aforesaid, Alex Hutchinson, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is about 87 years of age, having been born on the unknown day, born a slave, in the county of Coffee, in the State of Alabama. That he is a bona fide citizen of the county of Okaloosa, State of Florida. That he has resided in the State of Florida continuously since about 1867. That he is the identical person who was drafted for laborer, under the name of Alex Hutchinson in the spring of 1864, carried to Mobile to help build Fort, of the State of Ala. In the service of the Confederate States Army and who was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at Mobile, in the State of Alabama, on the ___ day of May, 1865, on account of at close of war. That I served faithfully until HONORABLY DISCHARGED from the service of the Confederate Army in the year 1865, and did not desert the service of the Confederate Army nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States until after the surrender of the Confederate Armies. That I was at Mobile, Alabama. That I have not applied for a pension from the State of Florida and refer to Claim No. ____ for the proof contained therein. (Here state any disabilities, physical or mental.) Worn out through old age. Have been unable to do any work during the past three years. That my postoffice address is Laurel Hill, County of Okaloosa, State of Florida. His Mark: Alex Hutchinson Attest: (2) Joseph A. Davis (1) R. J. Hart Sworn and subscribed before me this 12th day of September, A.D. 1925; and I hereby certify that the above declaration, etc., were fully made know and explained to the applicant before swearing; and that I have no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this claim. Davis, Notary Public ******************************************************************************* Report of County Commissioners We, the undersigned, County Commissioners in and for the County of Okaloosa, Florida, do hereby report that at a meeting of the Board of County Commissioners held this day, the foregoing application of Alex Hutchinson for a pension under the Laws of Florida, was investigated by us, and we are satisfied that the representation made in the petition and affidavits are true, and that a pension should be granted to the applicant. Lee who first being duly sworn deposes and says that he knows of a fact that Alex Hutchinson was drafted as a laborer into the Confederate Army in the year 1864 and that he the said Alex Hutchinson did return after the close of the war in the year of our Lord 1865. Dear Sir: I beg to acknowledge receipt of your application for pension, which has been filed in the Pension Department for consideration of the Board. I note that you were not a regularly enlisted soldier, but was drafted for laborer and under the provisions of the present law an applicant for pension is required to have been a regularly enlisted soldier and to have served until the close of the war or until Honorably Discharged. Dear Sir: I regret very much indeed to advise that your application for pension was presented to the State Board of Pensions for consideration and denied on account of the fact that you do not appear to have been a regularly enlisted soldier and the law requires an applicant to have enlisted and served. I am enclosing herewith copy of the present Pension Law for your attention and beg to refer to Section 1444, which relates "who entitled to pension", etc. Yours very truly, Secretary, State Board of Pensions.
