Mr. Lundy stated in his claim for pension that he was born on the 18th day of January 1848, and that he enlisted in Company D, Coffee County Home Guards of Alabama, the latter part of March, 1864, and served until discharge at Elba, Ala., in May of 1865, on account of the close of the war. Mr. Lundy was granted a Confederate pension by Special Act of the Legislature of 1939, Chapter 19298, which reads in part as follows: "An Act Granting a Pension to W. A. Lundy of Okaloosa County, Florida. WHEREAS W. A. LUNDY, of Okaloosa County, Florida is now ninety-one (91) years of age and in feeble and weakened physical condition so as to incapacitate him for work to support himself, and he is in destitute circumstances and greatly in need of a pension; AND WHEREAS, W. A. Lundy has resided in the County of Okaloosa for more than fifty (50) years and is one of its oldest citizens; AND WHEREAS W. A. LUNDY at the age of sixteen (16) years enlisted in the Confederate services in the Home Guards in Coffee County, Alabama, and rendered valuable services therein to the Confederate cause; BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA: Section 1. That in recognition of the services rendered by the said W. A. Lundy, he is hereby awarded a pension in the sum of Four Hundred Eight Dollars ($480.00) per annum in equal monthly payments, in the same manner that other pensioners are paid, said payments to be made during the remainder of his natural life or until otherwise provided by law." Under date of January 20, 1942, Mr. Lundy executed designation of beneficiary, as required by laws of Florida, in which he named you as beneficiary to receive any unpaid amount that might be due at date of death from Confederate Pension Funds. In order that this may be determined, and for the records of the Office, it is necessary that a certificate be executed giving this information, by the physician attending Mr. Lundy during his last days of illness. This form is enclosed, and it will be appreciated if you will have the physician execute same and return to me, and as soon as it is determined whether there is any amount due for the month of September, a warrant will be issued to his beneficiary. Will say Mr. Lundy a confederate soldier that lived in Florida died around the latter part of April or first part of May of this year. A man living here in Ashland told me he saw account of the death Mr. Lundy. I did not see the account of his death here in our newspaper. I will greatly appreciate it if you will tell me the name of the city Mr. Lundy lived in here in Florida and the name of the paper published in the town Mr. Lundy lived in. Lundy, Confederate Veteran Pension Certificate #8948 Dear Mr. Turner: This is in response to your letter of June 9, 1965, requesting Confederate Military Service Record of the above subject captioned Confederate Veteran for the purpose of applying for headstone or marker for his grave. Attached hereto you will find photostatic copy of this veteran's Pension Claim filed by him and in the body of which will be found a statement made by him as to his Confederate Military Service. Also attached are two affidavits of his comrade-in-arms supporting his statements in his claim. I am also enclosing from No. DA 1815 in the original and duplicate, which has partially been filled in and which should be used in filing Application For Headstone or Marker when mailed to the Department of the Army, Office of the Quartermaster General, Memorial Division, Washington 25, D. C., as shown on the back and lower left hand corner of the instruction information printed thereon. This application form is sent you in order that it will expedite and assist in your endeavor. He enlisted March 1864, discharged May 1865, date of birth January 18, 1848, date of death September 1, 1957 and interred Almarant, Laurel Hill, Florida.
