G. 201 (Mathews, William A.) ORD Hon. John H. Smithwick, House of Representatives Dear Sir: In response to the request contained in your letter of the 18th instant to be furnished with the military record of William A. Mathews, who enlisted at Greenville, Alabama, May 12, 1862, and served in Company I, 33rd Regiment, Confederate States Army, I have the honor to inform you as follows: The records of this office show that William Mathews (name also found as W. A. Mathews but not as William A. Mathews) served as a private in Company I, 33rd Alabama Infantry, Confederate States Army. He enlisted March 14, 1862, at Greenville, Alabama, and on the muster roll of the company for March and April, 1863, he is reported absent, detached to Sharpshooters April 19, 1863. On the roll for May and June, 1863, he is reported transferred to Hawkins' Battalion of Sharpshooters by order of General Wood. On the muster rolls of Company B, Hawkins' Battalion Sharpshooters from April 39, 1863 to December 31, 1863 (last roll on file), he is reported present. No record of capture or parole or any later record of him has been found. It is proper to add that the collection of Confederate records on file in this Department is far from complete and the failure to find the complete record of any person thereon is by no means conclusive proof that the person who bore that name did not serve as alleged during some period not covered by the records on file in this Department. Very respectfully, P. C. Harris The Adjutant General ******************************************************************************* Report of County Commissioners We, the undersigned, County Commissioners in and for the County of Okaloosa Florida, do hereby report that at a meeting of the Board of County Commissioners held this day, the foregoing application of W.
