Muster roll March & Apl., 1863, shows him deserted, date not stated, a Pvt. His name is not borne on the subsequent rolls of the Co. from May 1, 1863 to Feb 29, 1864, (latest on file). Capture, parole or later record not found. Not found as Jake Miller. One J. Miller, Co. not stated, 1st (Reserves) Florida Inf., C. S. A., was paroled May 15, 1865, at Madison, Fla., a Private. Dear Sir: In compliance with your request of the 6th, I am enclosing herewith regular form blank for application for widow's pension, and also copy of the present pension law for your information. If the widow to whom you refer, can furnish the Company and Regiment in which her husband served and the State from which he enlisted, I will be very glad to write to Washington in an effort to obtain Official Record of his service. If the service, her rendered was to the home guard or militia, no record can be obtained, only the records of the soldiers serving in the Confederate Organizations being on file there. D. One Thousand Nine Hundred and twenty six, personally appeared before me a Notary Public in and for the County and State aforesaid Elizabeth Miller a resident of Okaloosa County of State of Florida, who being duly sworn according to law makes the following declaration in order to obtain a pension under the provisions of the General Pension Laws of Florida. That she is the lawful widow of Jacob Miller who enlisted under the name of Jacob Miller on the 13 day of May, 1862, in Company New Company "G" 1st Florida Inf., C. S. A. of the State of Florida and who was honorably furloughed at Camp Lookout, a private, 186_, on account of sickness and came back, home, to Florida, on a sixty days furlough; stayed at home, near, Milton, Santa Rosa County, Florida for about one month and returned to his company and served until the war was over. Returned home again, after Lee surrendered and all the soldiers living were returning home. That she was lawfully married to the said Jacob Miller under the name of Elizabeth Gilmore in the County of Santa Rosa State of Florida, at Bagdad on the ____ day of about 2 years before the was (1860) and that she was not divorced from him before nor has she remarried since his death, which occurred on the ____ day of ____, 1___, in the County of Santa Rosa, State of Florida, 5 miles north of Milton, on Clear Creek. That the license for their marriage was issued at Milton, Santa Rose County Florida but the records were burned when the courthouse was destroyed. The marriage was solemnized by a preacher whose name was Wilkerson, generally known as Parson Wilkerson. That she is a resident of Okaloosa County, Florida, and has continuously resided in the State of Florida since the ____ day of ____ 1859 or 1860. Ever since she and Jacob Miller were married, as stated before. That she was heretofore granted a pension from the State of Florida under Certificate No. ____. I am a brother of Elizabeth Miller who is older than I am by 8 or 10 years as there are three children between she and I. I was not just personally present when she and Jacob were married but I know of the occasion and know they lived together and were recognized as man and wife from before the Civil War about 1858 or 59 until Jacob Miller died which occurred in this county about 14 years ago. She stated in her application for pension that her husband enlisted under the name of Jacob Miller on the 13th day of May, 1862, in Company (New) "G", 1st Florida Infantry, C. S. A., regiment of the State of Florida and was furloughed at Camp Lookout, a private on account of sickness; came back to Florida on a sixty day furlough; stayed at home, near Milton, Santa Rosa County, Florida; returned to his company and served until the war was over.
