County of Covington On this 11 day of Feb., A. D. One Thousand Nine Hundred and eighteen personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for the county and State aforesaid, J. W. Richards, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is 76 years of age, having been born on the 10 day of January 1842, in the County of Marion, in the State of Georgia. That he is a bona fide citizen of the county of Okaloosa, State of Florida. That he has resided in the State of Florida continuously since the 11 day of January, 1907. That he is the identical person who enlisted at Rose Hill, Ala., under the name of J. W. Richard or James W. Richards, about 1st day of July, 1861, in Company B, Regiment 18th Ala. of the State of Alabama in the service of the Confederate States and who was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at Rock Eiland, Ill. in exchange, in the State of Ill., on the 6th day of April, 1865, on account of none except service in Civil War. Captured Nov. 25, 1863 at Missionary Ridge near Chattanooga, Tenn. Imprisoned at Rock Eiland, Ill. was being sent down the Mississippi River for exchange when the war ended. That I served faithfully until HONORABLY DISCHARGED from the service of the Confederate States in the year 1865, and did not desert the service of the Confederate States nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States until after the surrender of the Confederate Armies. (Here state whereabouts at close of Civil War.) That I was at Rock Eiland, Ill. prison waiting exchange. That I do not own property, including real estate, personal property, stocks, bonds, mortgages or other collateral securities of any kind in this or any other State, nor does my wife own with me jointly or separately, property to exceed in value the sum of five thousand dollars, exclusive of my or our home and one acre of land upon which said home stands. Richards, who is an applicant for a pension under the Laws of Florida, and that from our own personal knowledge, and from the best information available, we believe that the applicant does not own property (including the property of his wife) to exceed in value the sum of $5,000, exclusive of his home and one acre of land upon which said home stands, and that the statements made by him relative to the value of his property are true and correct. Adams, a J. P. in and for the State and County aforesaid, personally came W. J. Stanley, Sr. of Covington County of Opp, Ala., State of Alabama, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical person who enlisted at Branonville, Coffee Co. in the State of Alabama on the 1st day of April, in Company A 18 Regiment of the State of Alabama, which organization was regularly mustered into the service of the Confederate States of America; that he knows of his own personal knowledge that James W. Richards enlisted in Company B 18 Regiment of the State of Alabama at Rose Hill, Ala., in the State of Alabama, on the 1st day of July, 1861; that he served faithfully in the said organization until the 6 day of April, 1865; when he was HONORABLY DISCHARGED on account of end of war, at Rock Eiland in the State of Ill., and did not desert the Confederate States service nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States before the close of the War. (Here state whether the soldier was transferred to another organization, or not, and if captured or imprisoned, state when and where.) Captured at Missionary Ridge. Imprisoned at Rock Eiland, Ill. I know personally of the above stated service, because I served with him as guard in Company A Regiment 18 of the State of Ala., and was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at Marietta, in the State of Ga., on the 8 day of Nov., 1863, by reason of wound, and I did not desert the Confederate States service nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States before the close of the War. Odom of Andalusia R "A" County of Covington, State of Alabama, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical person who enlisted at Andalusia in the State of Alabama on the 1st day of July 1861, in Company B 18th Ala. Regiment of the State of Alabama, which organization was regularly mustered into the service of the Confederate States of America; that he knows of his own personal knowledge that James W. Richards enlisted in Company B 18th Regiment of the State of Alabama at Rose Hill, in the State of Alabama, on the 1 day of July, 1861; that he served faithfully in the said organization until the ____ day of April, 1865; when he was HONORABLY DISCHARGED on account of war closed, at Rock Eiland in the State of Ill., and did not desert the Confederate States service nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States before the close of the War. Captured at Missionary Ridge, imprisoned at Rock Eiland, Ill. I know personally of the above stated service, because I served with him in Company "B" Regiment 18 of the State of Alabama, and was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at Lauderdale, in the State of Miss., on the ____ day of April, 1865, by reason of close of war, and I did not desert the Confederate States service nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States before the close of the War. W. Richards for a pension under the Laws of Florida, was investigated by us; that we are satisfied that the applicant does not own property (including the property of his wife) to exceed the value of $5,000, exclusive of his home and one acre of land upon which said home stands; that he has been a bona fide citizen of the State of Florida for at least 8 years just preceding the date of this application, and that the representation made in the petition and affidavits are true, and that a pension should be granted to the applicant.
