FORM A State of Florida} County of Okaloosa} On this 22 day of Nov., A. D. One Thousand Nine Hundred and Twenty-eight personally appeared before me, a notary public in and for the county and State aforesaid, George Reddick, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is 82 years of age, having been born on the 26 day of Oct. 1847, in the county of Walton, in the State of Florida. That he is a bona fide citizen of the county of Okaloosa, State of Florida. That he has resided in the State of Florida all his life. That he is the identical person who enlisted at Eucheeanna, under the name of George Reddick, on the ____ day of August, 1864, in Company Home Guard, Regiment Home Guard of the State of Florida in the service of the State of Florida Home Guard Co. and who was honorably discharged at Company was disbanded in the state of Fla. at the Battle of Marianna, on the ____ day of May I believe, 1865, on account of close of the war. (Here state any other military service performed by applicant.) I was first stationed at Whitfield to guard a boat and remained there in service for sometime then went with others from Eucheeanna to Vernon and was joined to Capt. Jones Co. to go and protect Marianna. We went to Marianna to meet the Yankees that was coming. They came and taken the town. Some of our men was killed, some captured and all that could got away. I got away and was not called back to service for the war was over. That I served faithfully until HONORABLY DISCHARGED from the service of the State of Florida in the year 1865, and did not desert the service of the State of Florida nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States until after the surrender of the Confederate Armies. (Here state whereabouts at close of Civil War.) That I was near Vernon, Washington County, Fla. After the Battle of Marianna the Home Guards was advised the war was over and we could go home. Our Capt. was captured. That I have heretofore applied for a pension from the State of Florida and refer to Claim No ____ for the proof contained therein. (Here state any disabilities, physical or mental.) I have not applied for pension as I was able to live but I have lost one leg and I am now dependent on others for support. Ward Notary Public, State of Fla. ******************************************************************************* Report of County Commissioners We, the undersigned, County Commissioners in and for the County of Okaloosa, Florida, do hereby report that at a meeting of the Board of County Commissioners held this day, the foregoing application of George Reddick for a pension under the Laws of Florida, was investigated by us, and we are satisfied that the representation made in the petition and affidavits are true, and that a pension should be granted to the applicant. County Commissioners Allen Carr, Clerk Circuit Court ******************************************************************************* Affidavit to be Made by Comrade State of Florida} County of Walton} Before me, a notary public in and for the State and County aforesaid, personally came George Nichols, of Bruce, County of Walton, State of Florida who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical person who enlisted at Eucheeanna in the State of Florida on the ____ day of ____, in Company Home Guard Regiment of the State of Florida, which organization was regularly mustered into the service of the Confederate States of America; that he knows of his own personal knowledge that Geo. Reddick enlisted in Company Home Guard Regiment of the State of Florida, at Eucheeanna, in the State of Fla. on the ____ day of Sept I believe, 1864; that he served faithfully in the said organization until the ____ day of ____, 1865, when he was HONORABLY DISCHARGED on account of close of the war. Our Co. was disbanded at Vernon in the State of Florida, and did not desert the Confederate States service nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States before the close of the War. (Here state whether the soldier was transferred to another organization, or not, and if captured or imprisoned, state when and where.) We was send from Eucheeanna to Vernon and was drilled under Capt. Jones then went to Marianna. I know personally of the above stated service, because I served with George Reddick in Company Jones Regiment Home Guard of the State of Fla., and was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at Vernon, in the State of Fla., on the ____ day of Spring, 1865, by reason of close of the war and I did not desert the Confederate States service nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States before the close of the war. Form F Affidavit to be Made by Comrade State of Florida} County of Walton} Before me, a notary public in and for the State and County aforesaid, personally came James W. Sconnies, of DeFuniak Springs, County of Walton, State of Florida who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical person who enlisted at Euchuanne, in the State of Florida on the ____ day of ____, in Company Home Guard Regiment of the State of ____, which organization was regularly mustered into the service of the Confederate States of America; that he knows of his own personal knowledge that George Reddick enlisted in Company Home Guard Regiment of the State of Florida, at Eucheeanna, in the State of Florida about Sept., 1864; that he served faithfully in the said organization until the ____ day of Spring, 1865, when he was HONORABLY DISCHARGED on account of close of the war, at Vernon in the State of Fla., and did not desert the Confederate States service nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States before the close of the War. Was transferred from Walton County to Washington County and was drilled in service under Capt. Jones and was sent to Marianna, Fla. and was there in service when the town was taken. I know personally of the above stated service, because I served with George Reddick in Company Home Guard Regiment ___of the state of Florida, and was HONORABLY DISCHARGED (company disbanded) at Vernon, in the State of Florida, on the ____ day of May, 1865, by reason of close of the war and I did not desert the Confederate States service nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States before the close of the War. Yours very truly, Secretary, Pension Board ******************************************************************************* Letter 6/23/30 Niceville, Fla. Hon. Ernest Amos, Tallahassee, Fla. Dear Mr. Amos, I received your letter wanting me to tell you who served with me in the The Walton County Home Guard Co. that was organized at Eucheeanna, Fla. in 1864. You are a man of knowledge and you well know that I can not now recall say 75 to 100 men and boys that served with us, some of them went to Capt. Jones, at Vernon, and remained there on duty until after the War except when they visited home for a few days only. Capt. Hutto, taken them there, Capt. McKinnon, as I remember went into the regular Army and then Hutto organized some protection for what the people had, I refer you to my proof of service, I can mention some of the Boys. Elder Gomillion, Jno. Wright, N. Adams, Math Clark, Bob Hatcher, Bill Owens, Jim Sconers, M. McQuag, John Campbell, some Crawfords, some McCullaghs, Chas. Howell, some ?, some McCaskills, before we was separated there was about 75 of us, then when some left younger Boys was taken in to Guard Bridges, Boats and other stuff, I trust this will give you the information you desire.
