BUCKMASTER, RICHARD P. who for many years enjoyed an extensive practice as an osteopathic physician and surgeon, has lived at Orlando since 1914, and several years ago retired from his profession and has since concerned himself largely with the real estate business. He is one of the moving spirits in the civic and business organizations of Orlando. Doctor BUCKMASTER was born at Moulton, Appanoose County, Iowa, February 14, 1877, son of Dr. ROBERT M. and ELSIE D. (KENNEL) BUCKMASTER. His parents were natives of Ohio, and his grandfather, RICHARD BUCKMASTER, was born in England and removed to Iowa in early days. ROBERT M. BUCKMASTER at the age of sixteen enlisted in the Union Army as a drummer boy, and was all through that struggle. After the war he taught school in Iowa, was in the drug business for a number of years, and after became a farmer, following that vocation both in Iowa and in Northeastern Missouri. He established a home in Kirksville, Missouri, in order to educate his children, and at Kirksville he became a close friend of Doctor Still, the founder and originator of the science of osteopathy. His association with Doctor Still led him to a course of study in the Still School, and for the past twenty-six years he practiced osteopathy both in Kentucky and Florida. He and his wife have been residents of Orlando since 1911. He was born in 1846 and she in 1847. They reared three children, two sons and one daughter, all residents of Orlando. RICHARD P. BUCKMASTER, youngest of the family, graduated from the Missouri State Teachers' College at Kirksville in 1896. In 1898 he graduated from the American School of Osteopathy in the same place, and for twenty-two years practiced his profession, being one of the early osteopaths in Kentucky. His home was at Lexington, Kentucky, for fifteen years, and from there he removed to Orlando in 1914. Since 1920 he has practically retired from professional work and has been in the real estate business as a member of the firm of CARL DAUN Company. Doctor BUCKMASTER is serving his second term on the city school board, and is giving much time to his public office. He is a member of the Orlando Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club, is high priest of the Royal Arch Chapter and a Knight Templar Mason and Shriner. In 1903 he married Miss NETTIE P. FURROW. They have two children, RICHARD L. and EVELYN DANA.
