CHENEY, whose distinguished record has been recounted elsewhere. Except for the time he spent in the army JOSEPH Y. CHENEY has been closely identified with the business interests of Orlando since leaving college. JOSEPH Y. CHENEY was born in Orlando, August 4, 1891. He is a graduate of the local high school, graduated Doctor of Science from Dartmouth College in 1913, and on his return home was for several years connected with the Orlando Water & Light Company, now the Orlando Gas Company, a public utility founded by his father. In August, 1917, he entered the Second Officers’ Training Camp at Fort Oglethorpe, was commissioned second lieutenant and assigned to duty with the Seventeenth Infantry. He commanded a company which was sent to Tampa to guard the shipyards. Later he was transferred to Camp Meade, Maryland, and was there when the armistice was signed. In the meantime he had been promoted to first lieutenant and was discharged with that rank. Since the war Mr. CHENEY has been prominent in the American Legion in Florida, serving as post adjutant and post commander of the Orlando Post, as state adjutant of the legion, and is now a member of the state executive committee. Mr. Cheney is also a Royal Arch Mason, Knight of Pythias and an Elk. In 1914 he married Miss HAZEL M. LOCKE of Lebanon, New Hampshire. They have had two children, JOHN LOCKE, born March 7, 1916, and KATHERINE JULIETTE, the latter now deceased.
