Take I-4 to Exit 47 for Maitland Blvd. Go west to first stoplight, where there is a 7-11 store. Turn left toward 7-11 store. Turn left again at stop light in front of 7-11 onto Lake Lucien. Small Maitland park on right and beside it is the cemetery, inside a wrought iron fence. Very well maintained cemetery. Notes: The following is taken from a marker situated at the Maitland Cemetery. Land on which Maitland Cemetery is situated was acquired as part of 160 acre parcel on 11 Dec. 1883, by Richard T. Packwood under the United States Homestead Act of 1862. On May 5, 1891, the Town of Lake Maitland purchased 10 acres on the North shore of Lake Lucien from Mr. Packwood and his wife, Maddie, for this cemetery and other uses. The cemetery was consecrated on Apr. 6, 1892, by the Right Reverend Henry B. Whipple of the Church of the Good Shepherd. The names of many of Maitland's founders appear on headstones. Veterans representing both sides of the Civil War are buried here, as are veterans of subsequent national conflicts. People whose names appear in the recorded history of Maitland, and other citizens, have also found a final resting place here on the gentle slopes of Lake Lucien. While at the cemetery, I met a lady who said she used to be associated with the cemetery records in some capacity. She told me that there are no longer any plots for sale. Many of them were bought in the 1800's. She said the records were not very good in determining whether all of the plots had been used to bury the owners. In other words, there may be more people buried in the cemetery that do not have any headstone. ADAM, Isabella, b. Feb 1 1875 d. Sep 6 1965 ADAM, M.
