Gertner, 71, former owner of Gertner Meat Packers here and active in Masonic, church, and civic affairs, died Monday at his 3025 Carmia Drive home. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Gertner moved to Orlando in 1939 from Indianapolis, Indiana, and started his own meat packing business in November of that year with two employees. When he sold the firm to George A. Hormel and Company in August of 1967, it had grown to 50 employees with a modern plant at 3854 S. Orange Avenue. He was president of E.R. Gertner and Company, Inc., holding company; president of Florida Meat Brokers, Inc.; a past vice-president and director of Sun Bank of South Orlando; past director of the Florida Wholesalers Association, and a past director of the National Association of Meat Purveyors. He also was past president of the Rotary Club of Orlando, a past president of Juior Achievement of Orange County, Inc., a past director of the Orlando Area Chamber of Commerce, a past director of the Orange County YMCA, and past president of the Daytona Beach YMCA. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Mokanna Lodge 329, F.& A.M., Orlando, a member of the York and Scottish Rites, a charter member of the Bahia Shrine Temple and past patron of Orlando Chapter 131, Order of the Eastern Star. A deacon of the First Baptist Church of Orlando, Mr. Gertner was also past president of its W.R. Clarke men's Bible Class and its young people's department. He was, in addition, president of Christ for the World, Inc. Survivors: widow Mamie Eloise Nolan Gertner; son, Ernest R., Jr., a vice- president of Quigley Publications, New York City, publisher of "Motion Picture Herald"; daughter Mrs. C.V. (Elizabeth) Williams, Jr., Melbourne; brothers Harold, Gainesville, and Charles A., Jacksonville; sisters, Mrs. Amy Brooks, El Paso, Texas, Mrs. Jane McDonald, Neptune Beach; and two grandsons (Michael & Mark Williams). Additional Comments: Separate funeral notice announced time of services as 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 1973, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, with entombment following at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
