He was born July 16, 1925 in Orlando, FL to Ulysses Grant and Willa Staton. Grant graduated from Orlando High School. He flew bombers for the US Army Air Corps during WWII and graduated from the University of Florida following his time in the service. Grant grew hydroponic tomatoes commercially, worked for Chilean Nitrate and then worked for Hi Acres as general manager of the fertilizer and insecticide division and vice president for 31 years. He was treasurer for Nitram, director for the Florida Agricultural Research Institute, a charter member of the Rio Pinar Country Club, current member of the Country Club of Orlando, former member of the South Orlando Kiwanis Club and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Grant was highly respected in the fertilizer industry but was also an avid Gator fan, loved fishing, boating, golfing, and was a world traveler. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Anne Shiver Staton; daughters Suzanne and her husband, John Bigalke, and Sally and her husband, Bill Kennedy; son Sam Staton; grandchildren Sarah and Brady Bigalke, Caroline and John Kennedy; nephews Dr. Ted Staton, Jr., of Atlanta, and Grant Sumner Staton; nieces June S. Mitchell, Sara S. Singer of Lumpkin, GA, and Deborah S. Cook of Denver; sister-in-law Dr. Jean S. Staton of Atlanta. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 1:30 PM at the Park Lake Presbyterian Church. Memorial donations may be made to Park Lake Presbyterian Church, 309 E.
