Directions: From N 301/98 in Dade City, Florida, turn left on Lock Street 
and drive west for .8 miles, turning right at the traffic signal. Drive North 
for .5 miles on a paved road, then .5 miles on a "washboard" road, turning left 
onto Indian Pond Cemetery Rd. The road dead-ends at the cemetery.

I can't find any information on this old cemetery, so my impressions will have 
to do until someone comes up with something more solid. Apparently, it comprises 
about 10 acres and at one time must have been a very beautiful place. Stately old 
oaks abound and nearby Indian Pond; though almost dried up now was probably serene 
and offered good fishing. It is part of a farm or a ranch now and black and white 
cows offer a bucolic scene with the ever-present snowy white egrets flying back 
and forth between the pond and the waiting cattle. Peacocks, all calling "help" 
live and thrive in the citrus grove next to the cemetery, as always a beautiful 
scene.

There are probably 40 or more cement slabs and only a small portion with names
and dates. Especially sandy soil accounts for so many sunken gravestones and 
slabs. A few stones have sunk so far as to be impossible to read. Rather than 
the usual burials in fairly well ordered rows, these graves are spread out and 
are quite far apart. Apparently, family members had their own idea about the 
different name spellings even though some are interred in the same plot. I have 
differing versions as to whether this is an Indian Cemetery or a Black Cemetery. 
I rather think it's a Black Cemetery and as always, hope it helps bridge the gap
with someone's search for their kin. Census was taken April 23 2002.

#1 Tombstone is broken in half through the date line.
#2 Mae Hughes and Ed Hughes graves are next to each other; however there is a large glob of cement covering the middle letters and the only letters showing are "Mae" and "ghes".
#3&4 Burroughs, Lottie and Borroughs, Grander Son are adjacent to each other, though different in spelling and all spelling was double checked.
#5 Gregg stone was lying flat and some few feet away from that of James H.
#6 Sikes, Ethey Mae; Sikes, Hollis; Sikes, Luversa and Sykes, James H. are all buried in the same family plot. Spelling double checked.
#7 Differing dates on stone. Date on stone is Dec 19 1925. Date of death Dec 26 1926 is from the Coleman/Ferguson records.
#8 Is information taken from headstone.
#9 There are two stones bearing the name, "Henry Adams".
#10 This is the info written on the stone.
#11 This is all the info I could find. Apparently, other parts of the marker are lost.
#12 Hines, Annie B. and Hynes, Eugene are buried next to each other. (Which may mean exactly nothing).
#13 Three sides and the top are the only pieces still intact from this crypt. The front; which is to say the information bearing slab, has been removed and lying broken on the ground with weeds growing up around and over them. This is all the information that I was able to find. While I did not make an inquiry as to the missing casket, I'm sure the Sheriff Department has more to say on the subject.
