AVERY, A. P., president of the American Bank and Trust Company at Saint Petersburg, has not only been a powerful leader in the business and finance of that community, but through his unselfishness and generous public spirit has made his life of signal benefit to many individuals and to the community at large. Mr. AVERY came to Saint Petersburg December 28, 1897, when the village was just starting. He has worked with and been a vital factor in that community ever since. He organized in 1910 the American Bank and Trust Company. In 1915 he organized the Avery and Roberts Company and in 1918 the Streeter Cigar Company. He was one of the organizers of the West Coast Telephone Company, and subsequently assisted in reorganizing and putting this public utility on a sound financial basis. Perhaps as much as any other one man he has been responsible for the development of important public utilities and services in Saint Petersburg.
