Buried also the Spaniards whom the indians once fiercely faught. Believed buried among them are bootleggers who brawled and fought. When Weedon Island became a preserve in 1989 the graves of two Civil War Veterans were found, those of Lorenzo Dow and Percy F. Ross. The headstones were moved to the Weedon Island entrance for preservation, however only one headstone remains, that of Lorenze Dow Ross. About 1998 the headstone of Percy Ross was stolen. While on a hiking trip in 1985 a PGS member, Howard Jensen, photographed several headstones found on one of the wooded trails of Weedon. Efforts to enlarge those photographs and capture the inscriptions failed. Cemetery Chair, Lesleigh Laite Butts, collected burial data, photographed the Lorenzo Ross headstone and Weedon entrance on July 10, 2001. This index is provided by the Pinellas Genealogy Society.
