Mr. CORNELL was born at Dubuque, Iowa, June 21, 1888, son of GEORGE B. and FANNIE (BANGHART) CORNELL his father a native of New York and his mother of Iowa. Mr. CORNELL is the younger of two sons. He was reared and educated in the Fox River Valley of Wisconsin, attended the Kaukauna High School in Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin. After finishing his education he was a civil and construction engineer in Chicago from 1907 to 1911. In the latter year he came to Florida, located at Pensacola, but soon afterward went to Glen Saint Mary, where he formed his first connection with the Glen Saint Mary Nurseries Company in the capacity of a laborer. He rapidly familiarized himself with the business and his promotion came steadily. He was made foreman, in October, 1912, came to Winter Haven in charge of the plant of the company at that point, a year later was promoted to manager, in 1916 was made assistant secretary and since 1920 has been vice president and general manager of all the company’s South Florida interests. Mr. CORNELL, who is unmarried, is a director in the Winter Haven Citrus Exchange and Supply Company at Tampa, and has a number of other business connections to indicate the substantial progress he has made since coming to Florida. At one time he was president of the Town Council at Winter Haven. Mr. CORNELL is an accomplished aviator, and in company with another flier, made the longest civilian cross-country trip up to the present time, going from Dayton, Ohio, to Seattle, Washington, back across the continent to New York and to Florida. He uses his plane for business trips all over Florida. Mr. CORNELL has had a very active part in the citrus industry, and in the up building of the community, working for good roads and civic betterment.
