Lakeland Ledger  January 24, 1987


Mr. Wilbur Emerson (Pappy) Avant, 81, of 306 Wilder Road, died Thursday, 
(January 22, 1987), at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami.

A native of Pelham, Georgia, he came to Lakeland 60 years ago.  He was a 
retired trucker and Baptist.

He is survived by his sons, Wendell Avant and Alvin Avant, both of Lakeland, 
daughters LaVerne Carter, Americus, and JoAnn Criss, Tennessee, a sister, Ella
Stancil, Bradenton, Florida, 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Gentry-Morrison Northside Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.


He was buried beside his wife in the Roselawn Cemetery.
